About twinning: There are two main types of twins — fraternal (dizygotic) and identical (monozygotic). Fraternal twinning is influenced by genetics, age, ethnicity, height, BMI, parity, and fertility treatment. Identical twinning occurs randomly at a constant rate of about 3–4 per 1,000 births worldwide and is not affected by any of these factors.
Important: This calculator estimates the chance of fraternal twins based on published epidemiological data. It cannot predict whether you will actually conceive twins. Twin pregnancies carry higher risks for both mother and babies, so always discuss with your obstetrician if you are considering fertility treatment or have concerns.
