FAQs

Why don't Pantone colors look exactly the same when converted to HEX?

Pantone colors are formulated with specific ink mixtures for print, while HEX codes represent colors on screens using RGB light. The conversion provides the closest digital approximation, but variations can occur due to different color systems (CMYK vs. RGB), monitor calibration, and viewing conditions.

While our online tool provides instant conversion, in Photoshop you can: 1) Use the Pantone color libraries, 2) Select your Pantone color, 3) Note the CMYK values, 4) Convert to RGB, then 5) Get the HEX code. Our tool simplifies this to one step.

Pantone C (Coated) refers to colors on coated paper, while Pantone U (Uncoated) refers to colors on uncoated paper. Our converter uses Pantone C colors as they’re more vibrant and commonly requested for digital conversion.

Pantone colors themselves aren’t copyrighted, but the Pantone Matching System and specific formulations are proprietary. You can use converted HEX codes freely for digital projects, but commercial printing using Pantone inks may require licensing for certain applications.

Common reasons include: monitor calibration differences, browser color rendering variations, incorrect HEX conversion, ambient lighting, and device screen technology (OLED vs. LCD). Always test across multiple devices.

Pantone produces over 1,800 spot colors, but our converter includes the 84 most essential and frequently used colors across design and branding. This curated selection covers the spectrum needed for most projects while maintaining tool simplicity and speed.
