How the Tool Works

This Swimming Calorie Calculator uses stroke-specific MET values from the Compendium of Physical Activities and applies the standard MET-based energy expenditure formula.

The MET values assigned to each stroke and intensity are:

Burn Rate (kcal/min) = (MET × Body Weight in kg) ÷ 60

Total calories burned for the session are calculated as:
Total Calories = MET × Body Weight × (Duration in minutes ÷ 60)

Consider a 70 kg individual swimming freestyle at moderate intensity for 30 minutes:
